Description
The recent 65-home development in Poplar, East London, represents a forward-thinking approach to urban regeneration, transforming a long-neglected site into a modern residential complex. This development required sensitive planning, as it is located within a conservation area, calling for designs that respect the historic surroundings while delivering contemporary housing solutions. With a mix of housing types, including duplexes, the project aimed to create an inclusive community with high safety and living standards, gaining approval as a beneficial addition to the area’s housing stock.
Base Fire Sprinklers was engaged to deliver a fire protection system that adhered to BS9251:2021 standards, ensuring the safety of future residents. The scope of work involved designing and installing a Category 2 sprinkler system running off a boosted cold water supply to meet the unique demands of the development’s layout, especially given the additional requirements presented by duplex apartments. These units necessitated additional feed mains to achieve comprehensive sprinkler coverage, ensuring every space met fire safety requirements. Using CPVC piping with concealed sprinkler heads, Base Fire completed a system that provided unobtrusive fire protection aligned with the modern design ethos, while overcoming challenges presented by site complexity and strict regulatory compliance.
